Process - Gathering Infomation and Idea Generation

13.09.14
Ideate, Making, Understand

After class on Tuesday i went home and began to gather information to assist me with idea generation. Azzy and i made a word list containing themes, tangibles, intangibles relating to fair trade, coffee and artists. we then made a visual library containing the same. I did however collected examples of websites relating to coffee to see how they have approached their theme of coffee, which i decided was either a traditional approach (stamps, grungy textures, letterpress type) or a clean professional approach (sleek, clean with minimalist).

After i had gathered all this information i put together a few mood boards visually displaying the two approached previously outlined. I then began to produce a few thumbnails of visual rhetoric and a couple of potential website ideas aswell.

Process - Project plan

09.09.14
Understand, Ideate, Define

Today we spent a lot of time understanding the brief and working through our ideas to generate a project plan that outlines our requirements, objectives, audience and background of the brief. This is a key part of the process to make sure we (as a team) are on the same page and shows our client that we know what is being asked of us. After we worked out our ideas on how to approach the brief we generated a quick thumbnail encompassing our ideas.

As we are targeting artists and art enthusiasts alike our thumbnail uses a painters pallet and uses substitution/addition by swapping paint for coffee stains, connecting the two ideas together.

Process - Understanding the Brief

08.09.14
Understand, Ideate

Today we were introduced to the brief. we covered Koha first - what it means and how it affects  our design practices and projects. next we went through the Objective of the brief and the submission requirements. We also participated in a group exercise to get us thinking about how different audiences will respond to different topics and how we can respond accordingly.

Understanding the brief and whats expected of me are an important part of the design process and will continue to be throughout my design career.

Development Workbook - The Simpsons Excersise - Lisa Simpson

Lisa Simpson
Lisa is very Intelligent, and concerned with world affairs. She disproves of some of society actions and she can sometimes be self righteous. She is an animal rights activist and is a vegetarian. Lisa enjoys music. Lisa is very organised and is also an 8 year old girl so is probably very time rich. she is probably budget conscious as she has no income apart from pocket money.

Clean The Beaches
Lisa would be very interested in this type of event as she is an animal rights activist, she would probably be keen to help run the event itself.

The event would have to be on a weekend so as not to clash with school which is also very important to her.

I think a design showing the damage to marine life would best affect Lisa and convince her to join the event as that is something she deeply cares about. That being said the imagery must be acceptable for an 8 year old.

Fair trade coffee Break
This is something Lisa could get behind as she cares about the world.

The biggest issue for Lisa is her lack of income due to being young, and so will be unable to purchase coffee very often if at all.

A design explaining the benefits that directly affect the farmers and their lively hood would have the best chance of convincing Lisa to join the event.

Development Workbook - The Simpsons Exercise - Marge Simpson

Marge Simpson

Marge is very family orientated and is a caring mother. She is the rational member of the family and holds it together. She might be budget conscious as their household only has one income and 3 kids. Alot of marges time is spent taking care of her family, that being said she has time for her own things during day when her family is at work and school. she has an addictive personality, and has had a gambling problem in the past.

Fair Trade Coffee Break
Marge Would care about the welfare of others, and would get involved with this event if it was family friendly and connected to her rational thinking and caring nature.

Buying more expensive coffee may turn her away from the event due to budget problems but this could also make her more sympathetic for the farmers and workers who need support.

Factual information that inspire guilt would work best to persuade marge to support this event especially if children were involved.

Love your Coast
The environment is something that would concern marge but she wouldn't
consider going to this event for the environment alone.

A campaign centered around cleaning up the beach for the future of the
children would be effective in persuading marge to attend.

Taking a whole day to clean the beach may be a problem for marge as her
family keep her busy, if the event was during school hours or family based
she could make time.
